There are more than 60 private/commercial campgrounds and RV parks located just off the Parkway along its entire length. The first one is found on MP 27 – Montebello Camping and Fishing Resort. Montebello means beautiful mountain, and you’ll see why if you stay at this breathtaking campground in the midst of George Washington National Forest. At an elevation of 2,700 feet, the mountain landscape includes lakefront sites for tents and RVs and trailers needing full hookups. The highest cascading falls east of the Mississippi are just a few miles away as well.
MP 90.9 – Middle Creek Campground is nestled in the foothills along the Jefferson National Forest and offers tent, RV/trailer and cabin sites complemented by a swimming pool and stocked trout fishing ponds. Jennings creek and James River are both nearby, along with plenty of hiking trails.
MP 177.7 – Meadows of Dan Campground features beautiful log cabins in addition to tent and RV sites. It is a small, quite campground that represents the best of “getting away from it all.”
MP 312 – Down by the River Campground is on the Linville River (great for trout fishing) just minutes from the popular Grandfather Mountain. They even organize camp-wide potluck lunches and breakfasts, which means you meet all kinds of new people while eating great food. Spacious well-organized full hookup sites along paved roads – bring your bicycles!
MP 412 – Cascade Lake Recreation Area & Campground is located in the “land of waterfalls” portion of the Parkway. With two lakes for fishing and boating, small beach, surrounded by mountain scenery, this is a beautiful setting. You can even paddle a canoe up to the very popular Hooker Falls.
