The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation maintains an archive of stories told by people called “End-to-Enders” – the travelers who have journeyed the entire 469 miles of the Parkway and have amazing stories to tell about it.
Building of the Parkway
Construction of the Blue Ridge Parkway began in 1935 (when it was originally called the Appalachian Scenic Highway) and wasn’t finished until 52 years later in 1987. The history and stories about this amazing project are worth exploring. Much of the history can be learned at the Visitor Centers along the Parkway.
