The road itself is open year-round, although inclement weather can force closures, as can significant construction projects. Most of the facilities along the Blue Ridge Parkway are closed throughout the winter, but there are some notable exceptions for those who want to brave the winter weather.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center in Asheville, NC (MP 384), the Folk Art Center also in Asheville (MP 382) and the North Carolina Minerals Museum near Spruce Pine, NC (MP 331) are all open throughout the winter. In addition, the Peaks of Otter Lodge and Restaurant opens daily into the early part of December, then shifts to only being open on weekends until the spring. The general rule of thumb is that most facilities will be open by May 24, with a few opening a bit earlier than that.
